The Amateur Cartographer

For the past several months I have had the pleasure of teaching map illustration to K-12 children online. Everyone’s interpretation is different and they all inspire me to try new things, building new ways of drawing things, and hone my skills. While the maps that I do in the class are more basic and fun than professional cartography, it lends itself to wanting to learn more.

May 26th, 2020 I hit 100 maps for the class and decided to celebrate by creating a map zine that disassembles into nine full-size sheets to create one large map…

The zine is being created via live stream on Twitch on Tuesday nights at 7pm every week. With the intention to rework this site into a portal of sorts, I will be posting more images to my Patreon as well as my Instagram as I develop it.

I hope you enjoy seeing the process as much as I am enjoying creating it. I will be adding map illustration classes to my arsenal of workshops here in the near future so keep an eye out for announcements on my social media. If you would like to receive a physical copy when it comes out, please subscribe to my work on Patreon. All of my Patreon patrons will be receiving a printed copy of the zine via snail mail.
